    Investigating the Master Two Difficulties in Writing a Dissertation Case Study: EFL Students at the Department of English Chadli Bendjedid University El-Tarf

    Writing a dissertation is the final academic exam for master two students; it shows their five year’ harving. In fact, this process goes through obstacles and difficulties. Thus, the aim of this study is to gain insight into Master students’ experiences of dissertation writing in a conspicuously underexplored EFL context. Based on this, the conducted research explored both students’ and supervisors’ perceptions of the difficulties and challenges encountered by students during the course of writing their dissertation. To carry out this study, the researcher adopted a descriptive method where he designed questionnaires that have been administered to teachers and students at the department of English Chadli Bendjedid Universitiy. The findings indicate that the process of thesis writing is a formidable and daunting academic undertaking at the same time. In addition, the results revealed that the challenges that students face while writing their dissertation were mainly related to: linguistic difficulties, lack of some academic writing skills, their limited research knowledge, time restriction, problems in writing the chapters of the dissertation, lack of support and cooperation, and insufficient academic preparation. Duo to that pedagogical recommendations and suggestions for future researchers were presented at the end of the study. كتابة الأطروحة هي الامتحان الأكاديمي النهائي لطلاب الماستر السنة الثانية؛ فهي تعكس جهودهم خلال خمس سنوات. في الواقع، تمر هذه العملية بعقبات وصعوبات. لذلك، فإن هدف هذه الدراسة هو التعرف على تجارب طلاب الماستر في كتابة الأطروحة في سياق تعلم اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية الذي لم يتم استكشافه بشكل كافٍ. بناءً على ذلك، استكشفت الدراسة التي أُجريت كل من تصورات الطلاب والمشرفين حول الصعوبات والتحديات التي يواجهها الطلاب أثناء كتابة أطروحتهم. من أجل إجراء هذه الدراسة، اعتمد الباحث على المنهج الوصفي حيث صمّم استبيانات تم توزيعها على المدرسين والطلاب في قسم اللغة الإنجليزية بجامعة شاذلي بنجديد. تشير النتائج إلى أن عملية كتابة الأطروحة هي مهمة أكاديمية شاقة ومرهقة في الوقت نفسه. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، كشفت النتائج أن التحديات التي يواجهها الطلاب أثناء كتابة الأطروحة كانت في الغالب متعلقة بالجوانب اللغوية.الصعوبات، نقص بعض مهارات الكتابة الأكاديمية، محدودية معرفتهم البحثية، قيود الوقت، المشكلات في كتابة فصول الأطروحة، نقص الدعم والتعاون، وعدم كفاية التحضير الأكاديمي. وبسبب ذلك، تم تقديم توصيات تربوية واقتراحات للباحثين المستقبليين في نهاية الدراسة.

    The Effectiveness of Cloze Tests in Assessing Writing/Speaking Skills of EFL University Learners Case Study of Second Year Students at the Department of English, Chadli Ben Djedid University

    The present study aims to investigate the effectiveness of cloze tests in assessing the EFL learners writing and speaking skills. To achieve this purpose, this study is divided into three chapters. In order to confirm our hypotheses, the instrument used in this investigation to collect data is students’ and teachers’ questionnaire. The students’ questionnaire is provided to second year students at Chedi Benjdid University, El Tarf. The results show that cloze test is implemented in written and oral expressions classes; the two questionnaires reveal that if the learners are assessed by cloze procedure technique, their writing and speaking skills would be improved. The study recommends some ways for writing and speaking assessor to emphasize their students’ productive skills performance. تهدف الدراسة الحالية إلى دراسة فعالية اختبارات الفراغ في تقييم مهارات الكتابة والمحادثة لدى متعلمي اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية. لتحقيق هذا الهدف، تم تقسيم هذه الدراسة إلى ثلاثة فصول. ولتأكيد فرضياتنا، تم استخدام أداة جمع البيانات في هذا البحث وهي استبيانات الطلاب والمعلمين. تم تقديم استبيان الطلاب لطلاب السنة الثانية في جامعة شيدي بن جديد، الطارف. تظهر النتائج أن اختبار الفراغ يُطبق في صفوف التعبير الكتابي والشفهي؛ وكشفت الاستبياناتان أن تقييم المتعلمين باستخدام تقنية اختبار الفراغ من شأنه تحسين مهاراتهم في الكتابة والمحادثة. توصي الدراسة ببعض الطرق لمقيمي الكتابة والمحادثة لتسليط الضوء على أداء الطلاب في المهارات الإنتاجية.

    La covid 19 dans les caricatures. Etude sémiotique.

    Tirées des journaux « El Watan » et « Liberté », les caricatures traitant le virus du covid 19 forment l’objet de cette étude qui s’inscrit dans le domaine de la sémiotique de l’image. L’analyse sémiotique et globalisante d’un échantillon, en nous référant aux méthodes de Roland Barthes et de Martine Joly, montre la variété des signes utilisés (iconique, plastique et linguistique) et la richesse des caricatures en termes de significations : le danger, la sécurité, l’ambigüité, la tristesse, l’anxiété, l’héroïsme, etc. Taken from the newspapers "El Watan" and "Liberté", the cartoons dealing with the covid 19 virus form the subject of this study, which falls within the field of image semiotics. The semiotic and globalizing analysis of a sample, referring to the methods of Roland Barthes and Martine Joly, shows the variety of signs used (iconic, plastic and linguistic) and the richness of the caricatures in terms of meanings: danger, security, ambiguity, sadness, anxiety, heroism, etc. مأخوذة من صحيفتي "الوطن" و"ليبرتيه"، تشكل الرسوم الكاريكاتيرية التي تتناول فيروس كوفيد-19 موضوع هذه الدراسة، التي تندرج ضمن مجال السيميائية البصرية. يظهر التحليل السيميائي والعالمي لعينة، بالإشارة إلى أساليب رولان بارت ومارتين جولي، تنوع العلامات المستخدمة (أيقونية، شكلية ولغوية) وغنى الرسوم الكاريكاتيرية من حيث المعاني: الخطر، الأمان، الغموض، الحزن، القلق، البطولة، وما إلى ذلك.
