Abstract
Although CBA is essential skills, knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors required for
effective performance of real life task or activity. It addresses what the learners are
supposed to do with learning in real- life. Thus, it is a recent reform paved its way to the
secondary school level with clearly defined goals. The paramount goal is to push pupils
to reinvest the grammatical structures acquired at schools in practical real contexts i.e.
pupils are supposed to learn grammar by doing. The purpose of this exploratory study is
to explore and identify the major challenges that face both teachers and pupils of second
year in Ayad Ali secondary school in Boutheldja El Tarf This research project is desinged
to determine What challenges do 2AS teachers/ pupils encounter when teaching, and
learning EFL grammar under the CBA. and How do teachers and pupils handle such
challenges . In order to answer these research questions the study Data will be collected
from the respondents using questionnaire as research tool , and a mixed approach
combining both quantitative and qualitative research method will be adopted . One
questionnaire will be handed to 2AS teachers , Another will be handed to 2AS pupils
from the same secondary.Result of the investigation indicate that Challenges involve both
teachers, and pupils’ negative attitudes toward teaching / learning grammar in addition to
the insufficiency of time allocated to grammar , To face such challenges, teachers and
pupils should hold positive attitudes toward grammar, and more time should be devoted
to its teaching, and learning
