Investigating EFL Learners’ Use of the Compensation Strategies to Overcome their Limitations in Essay Writing. Case study of Third Year EFL students at Chadli Bendjedid University El-Tarf

Abstract

The current study aims at exploring third year students’ difficulties and struggles encountered when using Compensation strategies in writing EFL essay at the Department of English, Chadli Benjedid University, El-Tarf. A descriptive analytical method is employed, a questionnaire has been administered for teachers and students’ essays were analyzed to validate the gathered results. The obtained findings have confirmed and proved the out hypotheses, which stipulate that EFL learners have difficulties in producing a well-formed essay. In addition, if third year EFL students at Chadli Benjedid University use CSs then they will overcome their limitations with essay writing. In the light of these results, implications demonstrated that learners are unaware of such strategies although they use some of them indirectly and implicitly in their essay, writing as well as recommendations and future suggestions are presented. The results also recommend further studies to investigate students’ use of CSs to overcome EFL learners’ difficulties with essay writing

يهدف هذا البحث إلى استكشاف مشكلات طلاب السنة الثالثة والصراعات التي يواجهونها عند كتابة مقال باللغة الانجليزية كلغة أجنبية في قسم اللغة الانجليزية جامعة الشاذلي بن جديد الطارف .حيث اعتمد هذا البحث على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي وتم استخدام استبيان تم إجراؤه للأساتذة بالإضافة إلى تحليل مقالات الطلاب للتحقق من النتائج التي تم الحصول عليها. على هذا الأساس أكدت النتائج التي تم الحصول عليها فرضياتنا التي تنص على إن متعلمي اللغة الانجليزية كلغة أجنبية يعانون من عدة مشاكل أثناء كتابة مقال .بالإضافة إلى استعمال متعلمي اللغة الانجليزية للآليات المساعدة على تعلم اللغة ستساعدهم على التقليل من الصعوبات التي يواجهونها خلال كتابة مقال باللغة الانجليزية .تحت ضوء هذه النتائج أثبتت الدراسة أن المتعلمين ليسوا على دراية بالآليات المساعدة على تعلم اللغة وان بعضهم استخدم هاته الآليات من غير قصد وهذا ما خلف معاناتهم من العديد من المشاكل في كتابة مقال .قدمت الدراسة العديد من التوصيات والاقتراحات المستقبلية كما أوصت النتائج بإجراء مزيد من الدراسات للتحقيق في استعمال الآليات المساعدة على تعلم اللغة الانجليزية كلغة أجنبية.
