Abstract
Vocabulary has an important value in EFL teaching and learning process , it is founded
in all the four skills : speaking , listening , reading and writing , and they are related in big
relationship .Vocabulary learning among secondary school students at EL MOUKADEM
ABD ELRAHMEN BEN SALLEM presents that the majority of the student have a deferent
problems in their vocabulary development . From this point , EFL students start to rely on
new ways and strategies , that can help them in enhancing learning vocabulary . The aim of
this study is to investigate the usefulness of dictionary as supplementary material in learning
setting , and to show the significance of using them in this process . To obtain this objectives
three research questions were mentioned to realize the investigation . This research includes
student’s questionnaires as research instrument . In addition , the quantitative data presented
new discoveries about the usefulness of dictionaries in vocabulary learning , while the results
showed that EFL students recognize the great value of this supplementary material , and that
they can benefit from if it is used correctly , because it worked as a motivation and made the
process more enjoyable and interesting learning due to the recognition that dictionaries offer .
Some recommendations were provided in order to help students and teachers to win in
gaining the best results from dictionaries
